How long can DNA be preserved?

I recently found a sample of kiwi DNA I prepared roughly one year ago, and it still has the telltale white filaments of the original DNA. It's been preserved at room temperature (~27 degrees Celsius) in a sealed container filled with ethanol. Is it still DNA or has it decayed into something else, like the component nucleic acids?
